Do you encourage your teen or young adult to join new activities or clubs?
Once our children reach a certain age, we might stop encouraging them with new opportunities and challenges because we feel they are too old or push back when asked to try new things. This is when we have to do the hard work and do what's best for them. We shouldn't concentrate on their chronological age. Instead, we should access where they are with their relationship and communication skills.
Although they might be perfectly content by themselves (which is ok sometimes) our life is meant to be shared with others and we should continue to encourage our teens and young adults to have new experiences. Not only is it good for them, but your teen and young adult can make a huge difference in someone else's life.
Communicating with others is something we do for all of our lives. We are all works in progress when it comes to communication and relationship building. Being part of a group not only works on friendship development, it can also be a boost for self-confidence as they grow in a safe environment.
